One dead, one seriously injured in Mayfield car crash
MAYFIELD One Broadalbin resident is dead and another seriously injured after a Sunday morning single-car accident, according to state police.
At approximately 2 a.m. Sunday a 2009 Mercedes was traveling westbound along Route 155 in the town of Mayfield. The driver, going at a high rate of speed, couldn’t maneuver a bend in the road, police said.
The Mercedes struck a signpost, sheared off a power pole and struck an earth embankment before landing on its side on a lawn adjacent to the roadway.
Both occupants were thrown from the car. Justin Depaula, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene. Melissa Vincent, 38, was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, where she is in stable condition with multiple injuries, police said.
It is not clear who was driving, police said.
The incident is still under investigation. Officials are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has any information regarding the accident to contact the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Fonda at 853-4708.
