Troopers: Cobleskill man baited, trapped neighbor’s cats
COBLESKILL A Cobleskill man faces multiple felonies, accused of baiting and trapping his neighbor’s cats, state police said.
Donald P. Brown, 65, faces a total of four counts of aggravated cruelty to animals, felonies.
Brown is accused of batting and trapping four cats belonging to his neighbor about two weeks ago.
State police did not indicate the current status of the cats or how seriously they were harmed.
For someone to be charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, though, a companion animal must have been killed or seriously injured. That action must also be the result of actions that were intended to cause “extreme physical pain” or were carried out in a manner that was “especially depraved or sadistic,” according to the current agriculture and markets law.
Brown was arraigned in Cobleskill Town Court and released to return to court later.
