Catone promoted to assistant chief in Saratoga Springs
SARATOGA SPRINGS Lt. John Catone was promoted to assistant chief of the city police department Saturday.
“John has proven himself as an excellent leader and administrator,” Police Chief Greg Veitch said in a statement. “His career accomplishments demonstrate his commitment to keeping the city of Saratoga Springs a safe place for residents and visitors. His community and law enforcement connections have proven to be invaluable time and again in a variety of situations.”
A 26-year veteran of the department, Catone spent the last two years in charge of the department’s Investigations Division. During his career, he was involved in several major cases, including the 2002 murder arrest of Robert Brockbank and the kidnapping arrests of Anthony Balsamo in 2002 and Victor Hernandez-Perez in 2009.
“Not only has he performed admirably as head of our investigations division, but he has established a reputation as the person to go to on a wide range of department issues,” said Public Safety Commissioner Chris Mathiesen .
Catone earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Empire State College in 2004 and is scheduled to complete his master’s degree at the end of this year. He serves on the advisory boards of the Saratoga Center for the Family and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
