The Section II field hockey tournament begins Tuesday with Class B quarterfinals games, including a matchup with Scotia-Glenville at defending champion Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake.

Class C quarterfinals are Wednesday and the Class A event starts Thursday, with No. 1 seed and reigning champion Niskayuna receiving a bye.

Niskayuna and Shenendehowa have met in the last three large-school title games. The Silver Warriors used last year’s victory as a springboard toward the state semifinals. That Section II final was decided in overtime, just as the previous two were when the Lady Plainsmen edged the Silver Warriors.

Niskayuna (13-1, 14-1) had won 14 straight games since opening its season with a one-goal loss at Saratoga Springs. Niskayuna’s streak includes a pair of one-goal victories over Shenendehowa

(12-2, 14-2).

Johnstown is seeking its sixth consecutive Class B title-game berth. The Lady Bills beat Glens Falls for the crown in 2011 before Burnt Hills wrestled it away last fall.

South Glens Falls is the Class B No. 1 seed. Hoosick Falls is No. 1 in Class C, where Greenwich is the defending C champion.
