I just had what was probably the best meal of the year at The River Street Cafe, a pioneer in an area of downtown Troy that is now part of a vibrant restaurant/nightlife scene, in almost complete solitude. I think people are not lining up for this place because from the front entrance the place looks closed or looks like it's not a full service restaurant in the evening-more like a fast food lunch place. I have walked by several times and the placement of open kitchen from the front window doesn't look that great- perhaps if the owners put up a beautiful awning with the name of restaurent and some lighting outside to show it is open and cleaned up the look of the kitchen so it shows better from the front window- it would definitely attract more customers. None the less, from your review, we will be stopping in to try it since Troy is a lot like Schenectady- full of charm and hidden gems with tons of potential if only some of these places improved their facades a little.
