High schools: ND-BG stays in line for Big 10 title
Caroline Bouchard and Julie Nichols combined for 14 aces, and Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons continued its push for the Big 10 girls’ volleyball title with a sweep of Troy Wednesday.
The Golden Knights won, 25-16, 25-14, 25-10, to stretch their league record to 10-1 with a match remaining Friday against Schenectady.
Bouchard served eight aces to go with eight assists and seven digs, while Nichols had a team-high 13 service points and four kills. Paris Jarrell had seven kills for ND-BG (13-2 overall), and Rebecca Nichols had six assists.
Riley Martin paced Troy (3-9) with nine kills.
Loudonville Christian (11-1, 13-2) recovered after letting a two-set lead get away and beat Germantown to clinch a share of the Central Hudson Valley League title.
Kasey Hannay had 14 kills in Loudonville’s 32-30, 25-19, 25-27, 19-25, 25-11 win, Angela Stephano had 10 kills, and Kimberly Jeans collected 15 assists, 17 points and eight digs. Emily Rifenburgh served eight aces for the Clippers.
Carly Howe served nine aces as Waterford-Halfmoon (10-1, 12-1) beat Emma Willard, 25-17, 25-12, 25-17, and kept its hopes alive for a CHVL title share.
Howe had 15 points and six kills, and Emily Schumaker had 16 points, four aces and 10 digs.
Gabby Smith assisted on 30 points and Keyana Fariello led the defense with 26 digs as Broadalbin-Perth beat Queensbury, 25-23, 21-25, 25-18, 25-17, in the Foothills Council.
Maddie Gurga had 11 kills and eight assists for the Patriots (10-3, 11-3), and Chelsea LeBlanc had eight kills and five solo blocks. Queensbury dipped to 9-4 in the league.
Jenna Putnam had 20 assists and 12 kills, and Katlyn Pierce had 17 kills, 16 digs and six blocks as Gloversville rallied for a 25-11, 20-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20 win over Hudson Falls.
Ana Kroup had nine kills for Gloversville (9-4, 13-4), and Christina Pavlovsky had 16 assists.
