Field hockey: Showdown set in Suburban Council
Niskayuna beat Bethlehem, 3-1, and Shenendehowa edged Saratoga Springs, 2-0, leaving both the Silver Warriors and the Lady Plainsmen 12-1 in the Suburban Council.
Niskayuna will put its 13-game win streak on the line Friday at Shenendehowa in the final league game for both teams.
Ali Frary had a goal and an assist, Maura McCann and Ali Wells both knocked in a goal, and Carrie Hanks had an assist to lead the Niskayuna offense. Emily King made two saves for the Silver Warriors (13-1 overall), who have lost only to Saratoga Springs.
Sydney Shaw scored for Bethlehem, assisted by Marina Skrabalk, and Laura Downey made six saves.
Anna Bottino scored a first-half goal assisted by Claire Virkler for Shen, and set up Nicole daCunha’s second-half tally. Melissa Nealon made three saves for Shenendehowa, and Sam Geils made two for the Streaks (8-5, 10-5).
Nicole Beardsley knocked in three goals, Julia LeVan scored a pair, and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake soared to a 7-2 win over Columbia.
Elise Zwicklbauer had a goal and two assists for the Spartans, Lexie Ball scored a goal, Aubrey Kamppila also picked up two assists, and Shauna Ryan made nine saves at the other end.
Katlin Foster, Abby Leahey and Katarina Brunette supplied the goals in Shaker’s 3-1 win over Guilderland.
Aubrey Walden scored for the Lady Dutch off a feed from Elizabeth Schumacher.
