UPDATE: Rock thrown at bus injures two Schenectady High students
SCHENECTADY Two high school students were slashed by flying glass Monday afternoon as they rode home on their school bus.
A passerby threw a rock through a bus window at 3:56 p.m., shattering the window and striking them, police said.
Both students were taken to the hospital, treated and released.
“There were no major injuries,” said police spokesman Sgt. Matthew Dearing. “One individual had a laceration, a cut to the face.”
The bus was at the corner of Albany and Yale streets when someone unknown to the bus driver walked up and threw a rock. The students described the man as a teenaged white male, Dearing said.
He added that police believe the man threw the rock just to cause damage, not to hurt particular students.
“I don’t believe it was anything intentional to a particular person,” he said.
School officials sent another bus to bring the rest of the students home and notified parents that they would be late.
Police were searching for the rock-thrower but had no suspects Monday night.
