— Molly Illikainen and Cassidy Carels both scored twice, powering Providence to a 6-2 non-conference victory over Union on Saturday at Messa Rink.

The Friars (1-1) earned a split of the two-game series and denied the Dutchwomen (2-1) a chance of opening the season 3-0 for the first time in the program’s 11-year NCAA Division I history.

Providence took a 3-1 first-period lead. Kathryn Davis had the Union goal, a power-play tally, with 2:13 left in the period.

After Carels made it 4-1, Kathryn Tomaselli pulled Union within two on a goal at 13:40.
