Police agencies make drug sweep in Amsterdam

— Police charged five people with drug sales early this morning during a series of raids targeting crack and cocaine distribution in Amsterdam.

City police, along with officers from the Montgomery County Sheriff's department and the State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, served one search and four arrest warrants, confiscating nearly an ounce of both powder and crack cocaine, $3,200 in cash and prescription pills during the early-morning effort, according to a release.

Police reported the following arrests:

*Michael Quinones, 28, of 68 Grove St., First Floor, was charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

*Charged with third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance were: Andrew Joseph, 34, of 15 Morris St.; Beverly Singletary, 48, of 182 Woodrow Rd.; Pedro Rosado, 20, of 10 Crane St., First Floor; and Michelle Abatecola, 41, of 19 Lincoln Ave., Apt. 2.

All five were held pending arraignment in Amsterdam City Court.
