Cornell U shuts down fraternity, citing drinking
ITHACA — Cornell University is booting members of Delta Kappa Epsilon out of their stone castle-like frat house after revoking the chapter's recognition due to excessive drinking.
Associate Dean of Students Travis Apgar says the students can stay at the house until the end of the semester.
Apgar tells local media outlets that the closing is related to an August incident where two underage females were taken by ambulances to a hospital because of the excessive amounts of alcohol they had consumed.
Apgar said the fraternity was already on probationary status because of a pattern of alcohol-related incidents over the past few years.
The fraternity has the option to appeal.
