Summit couple charged in connection with benefits fraud

— Police allege a Schoharie County woman collected $29,000 in Social Services benefits despite having a job.

Johanna Zanghi, 38, and her husband Brian Zanghi, 42, of Summit, are both facing felony charges following an investigation, according to State Police.

Police in a release allege Brian Zanghi knew his wife was gainfully employed while collecting benefits.

Johanna Zanghi was charged with third-degree grand larceny and 11 counts each of offering a false instrument for filing and falsifying business records.

Brian Zanghi was charged with three counts each of offering a false instrument for filing and falsifying business records, according to police.

Both suspects were issued appearance tickets returnable Dec. 2.
