— The Niskayuna Town Board will meet early this evening to vote on the 2014 town budget.

The meeting is to be at 5 p.m. at Town Hall, two hours earlier than the normal 7 p.m. meeting start time.

The budget up for vote tonight contains a property tax increase that is less than the state-imposed cap, Supervisor Joe Landry said Tuesday.

His original budget squeaked under the cap by $2, and he said the revised budget is slightly lower, but he could not provide exact numbers.

The town’s property tax cap calculation came in at 3.378 percent, and that was the percentage increase town residents would have seen on their tax bills, if Landry’s original budget was approved. That would have brought in $7,551,660, or $2 less than the maximum tax levy under the cap.

The final number is expected to be a little less.

Landry said in proposing his original budget that he didn’t need to cut any jobs to keep the budget under the cap, nor draw from the town’s rainy day fund.

His budget proposal called for total 2014 appropriations of $14,052,110, up $337,370 from the approved 2013 spending plan.

It called for a tax rate of just less than $2.54 per $1,000 of assessed value, up from just less than $2.46 in 2013.
