Union College student accused of sexually abusing woman on campus
SCHENECTADY A Union student is accused of sexual abusing a woman at the college, authorities said.
Joshua Callahan, 19, of 69 Cascade Terrace, Niskayuna, was charged Sunday with one count of first-degree sexual abuse, a felony. He is accused of subjecting a woman to sexual contact by forcible compulsion early Sunday morning on campus, according to papers filed in court. A prosecutor said Monday that the victim and suspect knew each other.
Union College spokesman Phillip Wajda on Monday said Callahan is registered as a sophomore at the school. He said he could not disclose details of any possible school disciplinary measures.
“We take these allegations seriously and are cooperating fully with the Schenectady police in their criminal investigation,” Wajda said in a statement.
Callahan was arraigned and ordered held on $2,000 bail. He posted the bail Monday.
