Too many obstacles make teachers’ task virtually impossible Re Robert Caracciolo’s Nov. 3 Viewpoint, “Combative classrooms: Schools should seek to uncover truths of recent violence and find solutions.” I remember getting jumped at Mont Pleasant High School in the 1970s, by a group of 50-plus kids. The most important survival tool I had was that when I went home, there was a detachment from what happened during the day at school. There were no cellphones ...

George: Where will the jobs be for these new citizens? I'm guessing they would be the ones these people are currently working. Like mowing your lawn and cleaning your house. What were YOU thinking would be their jobs? What are you guessing would be the reason why billions of dollars are needed to integrate them into our system? They're here now and integrated in our society. How much more cost can there be other than cost to them when they pay more income taxes. They're already paying sales taxes.

ronzo, it is not that they are here. The only reason we are having this discussion is that they are "undocumented democrats". They want their votes, period, end of story.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

wmarincic: I do not doubt that it is possible that some politicians strive to increase party membership via immigration reform. All parties try to increase membership via various agendas. What I am asking is how does George know that incorporating undocumented immigrants will cost billions of dollars? From where did he get this information (other than Fox News)? I have not seen nor heard from any other source anything about his dollar number. I’m just wondering if this is just HIS made up number, or if it is actually true. Walmart, the fast food industry and other low pay service job employers contribute more to Federal spending on social services than might a mere 6 million (actually it’s more like 11 million) newly legalized undocumented immigrants.

cheeseburger: I didn't BLAME anything on Fox News. I happened to see a story about the subject that George wrote about that was presented by Fox News, and only on Fox News. No where else. If I saw it on CBS, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, NBC, or any other traditional media source, I would have also so stated. When and where did President Obama outwardly blame President Bush for our country's economy? Isn't it the traditional media and left wing blabbers who beat up on President G.W. Bush all the time? I believe this president, as most presidents currently in office are above criticising their predecessor's actions until they leave office.
