A piece of campaign literature that includes misleading statements about some Republican candidates has infuriated some Democrats who helped pay for it. The piece attacks the Republican candidates for Schenectady City Council. It was sent out less than a week before the election by the Schenectady County Democratic Committee. Democratic Councilman and candidate Carl Erikson was so incensed by the piece that he canceled his last check for his group’s publishing fund, saying that he ...

If you didn't see the ad before it went out - that's on you. It didn't get written by itself. But frankly - this is Schenectady politics at it's most normal. Don't talk issues - talk nonsense. If the democrats lose - how about it has to do with bad management and endlessly higher taxes. But "sinister"? Hardly. And if you were running for office in another state four years ago then you owe an explanation for what you can do and how long you have been here. It's just the usual - no party is any better here - both are just awful.

Since when is the Tea Party and Freedom Works a bad thing. I'm not a member of either but I do look at their websites at times just like some of the liberal sites. As far as Joe Lazzari goes, I wish all politicians had his character and morals.

With 1,000 City tax foreclosures and the Democrats raising taxes Countywide 6% this year they have to stoop to desperate tactics. Re-elect who?

the attack ad [a common mailer sent to thousands of prospective voters] is a hallmark tactic of the S.C. Democratic Committee [see election filings to see who sits as chair and as committee people]. The committee uses this tactic immediately prior to election day. The hit piece's timing prevents the opposition from responding, except through the media, in an effective manner.

VOTE FOR ERIKSON, MOOTOOVERIN, KELLEHER, LAZZARI. REMEMBER THE D.C. BACKED BRUCKER, AND THAT OTHER ONE....KING, ERIKSON, AND RIGGI HAVE SHOWN INSIGHTFULL DUE DILIGENCE, AND COOPERATION WHICH LEADS TO GOOD GOVERNANCE.

It appears that the SCDC has no respect for its own candidates! Carl Erikson is to be commended for his response to this party failure to clear all mailings with their candidates. If in fact, any of the city council candidates do support the agenda of the Tea Party that would be important information that should be available to voters prior to the election. Unfortunately, that question was not posed by the reporter. While it is common to blame local leaders for most of the problems facing the city it is clear that many years of republican control of the federal government and recent obstructionist tactics pushed by the Tea Party gang are fundamentally responsible for our financial troubles.

This smells of Joe McQueen (SCDC Chair). He must have taken another sick day to produce this latest piece of propaganda. As a taxpayer in Schenectady County, I resent the fact that the "Communications Director" (who earns +80K a year) is abusing his position and producing these pieces while on the job. For him to say that he was "out sick" when he produced the Costly Koetzle piece is an insult to us all. On Tuesday, we have an opportunity to make positive changes at the county level by voting for Boulant, Gerace and Socha. It's time to end all of the cushy "no show" jobs that this democratically controlled legislature have instituted.

Thanks, Kathleen. There were a few points left out of this article, though. I went to school and was raised in Saratoga County. Yes, I ran for County Exec, though dropped before the primary to return home for some family matters. I was in PA for only 9 years. If that makes me a carpetbagger, what do we call a woman who relocates to NY who has NEVER lived in the state and becomes a US Senator?

By the way, I did vote here, I'm not a member of the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party (though they have some great points) and I have no clue what 'board' the Dems are talking about.

If this is how Schenectady welcomes people who want to take an active role in their community, it's no wonder people want to leave. The voters have the power at their fingertips to fire those who have done nothing and hire fresh talent that will speak on their behalf. I'm not going away and I will continue to be a voice of the people who are willing to be civil and discuss the issues that we all care about.

The mailer was a final effort of a party that's falling apart at the seams. I have plenty on them, but refuse to play the game. The business of the city is at hand; that needs to take priority.

It's time for the people to take back their beloved Schenectady! My heart and life are here. I'm asking to be your voice.

What are the Tea Party"great points" Joe Kelleher agrees with? Government shutdowns?, attacks on Obama?, repeal of healthcare? I dare him to respond in specifics! His wholesale attacks on the Democratic party sound very Tea like ! "take back the country", "take back the city"--Senator Cruz rhetoric for sure! We want people who will work with all in a nonpartisan manner.

IF YOU CARE ABOUT CONTROLLING TAXES- I agree with JImOcconnor with exception of Lazarri- Isnt Mr Lazarri a retired military/police officer getting one of those bloated pensions and free health benefits at the root cause of our tax burden?
If so, I would argue it means Lazarri would be an easy ally for police and support of their bloated budget/overtime/pension padding. So I would vote NO on Lazarri not for any association to the Tea Party but for a close association with the police/military. Riggi and Erikson have done a great job. Mootooverin an accountant by trade- can prob "SEE" and "Understand" the budget better to control it- and Mr Kelleher has just made a good argument to elect him above.
But Mr Lazarri? I think not- sorry. PS- the next focus of discussion I hope is why NYS even needs COUNTY LEVEL Govt? Eliminating this level would put more control in local residents and lover taxes- like they did in Massachusetts .

joe mcqueen is not chair of the SCDC. See: http://www.schenectadycountydemocrats.co... for a list of officers. The hit piece is basically a Quail production. The city candidates generally sign off on any piece that goes out in their races. For them to say they do not like it is laughable. It is an attempt to distance themselves from something they knew was coming. they are basically saying they are ignorant of mailings they paid for, which i find laughable.

No one knew about it? Everyone is shocked that this could happen in a one party Democratic cesspool? Right-throw the bums out. Clean out City Hall & County Building. Too many Schenectadians are gluttons for punishment.

tonijean stop with the anti police rhetoric. Joe Lazarri put thousands of miles on a bicycle every year talking to neighbors and building a community relationship as a police officer. If you want to control taxes, hire more cops to clean up this city like Guilianni did to NYC. Obviously the democrats have done nothing except tax and spend. The only Mayor in 50 years to try was Jurczynski, by bringing in the Guyanese. I guess according to tonijean it is a bad thing to protect your country and your city so that people like her can run off at the mouth. SMH.

Joe Lazarri is a good person. A real patriot. He was a good cop when there were plenty of bad ones around. He's earned my vote by showing deliberative approaches to issues. His insight into how certain crime cases are what drive overtime costs is more plausible than railing against contracts, or, retirement ballooning.

Typical dirty games by the democrats and why stick up for Ericson, schdyres? If he was truly upset with the person who authorized the flyer he would expose him. His loyalty lies with the dogs of the party. Vote for those with integrity and those who care about our city vote Lazzari!

tonijean - It's a bit unfair to assert Lazzari's positions due to his previous employment. Best place to determine his positions was to attend the candidate forums. Whatever his positions are he will be straightforward about presenting them.

wmarincic - Actually, the first major influx of new police officers were hired by Dinkins.
