Amsterdam man charged in stabbing
AMSTERDAM Police lodged felony charges against an Amsterdam man accused of stabbing another man at a convenience store Wednesday.
Michael L. Medina, 22, of 15 James St., was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and failure to appear, according to the Amsterdam Police Department.
The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital with stab wounds to the neck after first-responders got a call at 8:46 p.m. Wednesday.
An investigation led police to Medina’s apartment, where they found him hiding in a closet.
Police said Medina bit one officer on the arm and spit at others. He was carrying a knife, they said.
The bitten officer was treated at St. Mary’s Hospital and released.
Medina was held for arraignment.
