— A 41-year-old man killed himself when authorities arrived to arrest him on a burglary bench warrant, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department said Thursday.

Matthew A. Johnson, of 900 Grooms Road, was wanted by Town Court, and sheriff’s deputies went to his house around 7 p.m. Wednesday to take him into custody.

As two deputies approached the house, they saw Johnson look out the window and then disappear from view. The deputies called for backup, including the sheriff’s canine team, and went inside the home, where they found Johnson dead in the attic.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the house at the time, the sheriff said in a press release.
