Suspect in Albany shooting death arrested in Kentucky
ALBANY The suspect in an April murder in Albany was tracked down late Tuesday in Kentucky by members of the regional U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
Leonard Spence, 26, was arrested in Pembroke, Ky., on the strength of an arrest warrant charging him with second-degree murder in connection with the April 18 shooting death of 26-year-old Darzee Reid, of Troy. The shooting happened at the intersection of Central Avenue and King Avenue, where another man was also injured.
According to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice, Albany-based members of the U.S. Marshals Service began searching for Spence after the shooting. That investigation revealed he had fled the Albany area, and further efforts determined he was in the area of the Kentucky-Tennessee border.
The potential location of Spence was shared with members of the Marshals’ fugitive task force in Nashville, Tenn. Additional investigation indicated a possible address for Spence, who was taken into custody without incident Tuesday night.
Spence, who is not facing any charges outside of Albany, is being held in jail and is awaiting extradition back to New York.
