Common Core ‘one-size-fits-all’ curriculum should be eliminated

I am a candidate for the Schalmont School District Board of Education and am opposed to Common Core Curriculum. Common Core is essentially a massive federal government control of the our education system.

It is a one-size-fits-all mentality that is slanted decidedly toward socialism. According to NaturalNews.com: “A one-size-fits-all, centrally controlled curriculum for every K-12 subject threatens to close the door on educational innovation...” Tying the hands of teachers because they must use the strict Common core Standards.

Many teachers with long tenure are leaving teaching because of Common Core. A letter published in the Washington Post from a veteran teacher of 25 years had this to say: “ I keep hearing statements that only ineffective teachers are leaving the system. This upsets me. Many, and I mean many, teachers like me who have been evaluated as effective and highly effective for many years by their administration are leaving the public schools.”

This is unacceptable; teachers need to be able to teach and have the support of their school boards and administrations.

I recently spoke to a Niskayuna teacher and she expressed many of the same concerns I have. She feels that Common Core is not in the best interest of the students.

Sen. Charles Grassely, R-Iowa, has introduced legislation that would prohibit federal funds from implementing the Common Core Standards. The Washington Policy Center has made an assessment and has rejected Common Core, many education experts are rejecting it because it stifles classroom innovation. Alabama State Sen. Scott Beason introduced SB403 to prohibit the State Board of Education and the federal Department of Education from implementing the Common Core Standards.

There were 45 states and the District of Columbia that signed on to Common Core. However, as a number of states found, the Common Core Curriculum is a system of indoctrination, not education. They are working on legislation to repeal their association with Common Core.

Common Core is so massive that it will become fiscally impossible to pay for without large tax increases. New textbooks, lesson plans, teacher training, administration training, computer programs, video and audio, and scores of things I haven’t thought of will be needed. This will be a huge financial burden on our school district. This budget vote/school board election is the most important Schalmont may ever have. Vote on May 21.

Sch’dy paramedics are doing an outstanding job

I am writing to let all know how much we admire our Schenectady Fire Department paramedics.

Last month I had to call on them for an emergency. My husband had a bloody nose that just would not stop. The blood was just running out of his nose. We tried everything to stop it.

I went on the Internet and it said if it didn’t stop within a certain amount of time, call 911 because the person could go into shock. I did and the paramedics arrived in a very short time.

They assessed the situation and immediately knew what to do. They are always so friendly, pleasant and helpful, and have a very calming effect on everyone.

The bleeding would not stop, so they transported him to the emergency room at Ellis on McClellan Street, where the problem was taken care of.

This is one of the best services the city of Schenectady has provided for our community. We are very grateful.

Thank you Mr. Wilday for pointing out how the left are advancing common core for the sole purpose of indoctrinating our kids. Democrats have one goal and one goal only and that is to socialize America and destroy the greatest country the world has known.
