Memorial fund established to help family of four killed in Schenectady fire
SCHENECTADY A memorial fund has been established for those wishing to donate to help the family of David Terry, a bank representative said Wednesday.
Terry and three of his children were killed in a fire at their apartment May 2. Another child was critically burned. The fire, authorities have said, was intentionally set.
Relatives set up the fund, the Terry Family Fund, through SEFCU on Monday. Anyone wanting to donate can do so at any local SEFCU branch, a bank spokesman said. The fund is to help cover costs incurred by the family as a result of the fire .
Meanwhile, services for the four killed were still being finalized Wednesday. Robert Bond, of Bond Funeral Home, confirmed Wednesday that his home is handling the arrangements.
Killed in the fire at 438 Hulett St. were Terry, 32; Layah Terry, 3; Michael Terry, 2; and 11-month-old Donavan Duell.
Another child of Terry's, 5-year-old Safyre Terry, survived but suffered severe burns. She remains at Westchester Medical Center, where her condition previously has been reported as critical.
Charged in the fire is Robert Butler, 27, of Saratoga Springs. He has been described as a former boyfriend of the children's mother. He faces one count of first-degree arson, but murder charges are expected as well.
