Students' videos earn C-SPAN honors
AMSTERDAM Two groups of Amsterdam students attracted national attention for their video answer to one common question: “What’s the most important issue the president should consider in 2013?”
Seniors from the honors-level social studies class worked on two videos as part of C-SPAN’s national 2013 StudentCam competition.
Out of 1,893 national submissions, all recommending issues for Obama to address, the Amsterdam videos were two of only three New York state entries to make the top 75 and earn honorable mentions.
Francesca Boyer, Maddie DeLuca and Karleigh Madej created a documentary titled “Our Future,” which focused the challenges of providing affordable higher education to prospective college students.
“Stop Teen Violence,” produced by Harrison Flint, Brittany Roux and Brett Stanavich, tackled the causes and possible solutions to violence in teen culture.
Every year since 2006, C-SPAN has invited middle and high school students to produce five- to eight-minute documentaries on national issues. This time around, students were asked to address the president.
