— The man accused of threatening to shoot a Skidmore College student earlier this month is now accused of skipping out on the check at a local bed and breakfast last autumn.

Lance C. Leonard, who faces a felony coercion charge, tacked on two misdemeanor charges during an appearance in Saratoga Springs City Court before Judge Jeffrey Wait. He pleaded not guilty to knowingly issuing a bad check, a Class B misdemeanor, and theft of services, a Class A misdemeanor.

The charges stem from a stay at the Springwater Bed and Breakfast in Saratoga Springs this past November, when he allegedly left without paying his bill. Police allege he then tried to pay with a check drawn on an account that didn’t have enough funds to cover it.

Police previously had said that November was the last time Leonard came to the Capital Region.

He is due back in court April 5.

A lockdown was ordered at Skidmore College when Leonard allegedly promised to kill a Skidmore student who was trying to end her relationship with him. He said he would leave Massachusetts to come shoot her and harm himself.

A multistate police effort captured Leonard in Atlantic City, N.J., the day after he allegedly made the threats. He was found by police tracking his phone, which was possible because of his sex offender status. He was transported by Saratoga Springs police officers back to the area Friday.
