— A large swath of Balltown Road's southbound lane will be closed through the evening commute today so that workers can repair a water main break.

Police said the south lane will be closed from the Rexford Bridge to River Road, which is about a mile and a half away. The closure will last until 9 p.m. this evening, with traffic rerouted onto Aqueduct Road by the bridge.

The northbound lane will remain open to allow commuters from General Electric and the Knolls Atomic Power Lab to cross the bridge into Clifton Park.

The Schenectady County Department of Environmental Health has also issued a boil water order for a small portion of Niskayuna as a precautionary measure. All homes on Williams Street, Benedict Street, East Street and Middle Street are asked to boil water until the main can be repaired.

Homes on from 2735 Balltown Rd thru 2837 Balltown Rd. are also included in the advisory. In addition, the residences between 2744 Aqueduct Rd. and 2867 Aqueduct Rd. are also asked to boil water during the repair.
