Saratoga City Hall incident draws cops upstairs

— A 21-year-old Fort Edward man allegedly broke into City Hall and damaged property early Saturday.

Saratoga Springs police heard a loud noise around 4:40 a.m. coming from the second floor of the building at 474 Broadway, according to a news release. Police headquarters are in the basement of City Hall. Officers observed a man running through City Hall with a fire extinguisher. They pursued and apprehended the man, who was identified as Matthew R. Zecchini, of Kimberly Lane.

Police allege he entered City Hall and discharged the fi re extinguishers on the second floor, as well as smashed out glass doors on the third fl oor. A preliminary cost of the damage came in at $2,500.

Zecchini was charged with thirddegree criminal mischief and thirddegree burglary, both felonies. He was held pending arraignment.
