State wildlife officials say shanties used for ice fishing must be removed by the end of the week. The Department of Environmental Conservation says the structures must be gone by Friday or the owners can be ticketed and fined $100. The agency says shanties that fall through the ice are difficult to remove and are a hazard for snowmobilers, while those still in the water after the ice is gone can damage boats.

There are no ice sheds or people fishing on the South end of Saratoga Lake that I can see from my windows. There is a big open area of water in front of my house the size of a football field. And the ice is moving away from the shore line. Spring is coming the sooner the better. Happy boating. Slips still available at So. Shore Marina 584-9125 for 2013 seaSO.
