— Skidmore College has been locked down after police advised the college of a possible threat made against a student by a man who might be armed, according to an alert posted on the college’s website.

The suspect is described as a 49-year-old white man, about 6-foot-1 and balding. The threat was made off-campus, and police say they have identified the man and are following leads to apprehend him prior to his arrival to campus.

“Saratoga Springs police will have a strong presence on campus and they will be monitoring traffic at the campus’s entrances,” according to the alert, issued at 8:40 p.m. “In the interest of safety, the campus will be closed with officers screening in-going and out-going vehicles.”

Employees and students are being permitted to leave, but they are being advised that they may not be able to return until the situation is resolved.

Police are asking anyone who sees a man matching the suspect’s description to call police at 584-1800 or Campus Safety at 580-5567.
