Schenectady's Wells takes the mound for White Sox
CHICAGO Schenectady High School graduate Casper Wells, an outfielder for the Chicago White Sox, made his major league pitching debut tonight in a blowout loss to the Cleveland Indians.
Wells pitched the ninth inning of the White Sox's 19-10 loss to the Indians in the first game of a doubleheader. He pitched a scoreless inning. He didn't allow a hit while striking out one and walking one.
Coming into the doubleheader, Wells was hitting an even .200 in 19 games since being acquired by the Sox from the Oakland Athletics on April 30, with no home runs and one RBI.
The Sox are his fourth big league organization of the season. he started the season with the Seattle Mariners, but was waived and signed April 10 by the Toronto Blue Jays. The Jays, in turn, sent him to Oakland for cash on April 22 after designating him for assignment a week earlier.
