— A shootout in a residential neighborhood on Saturday afternoon in Amsterdam sent one man to the hospital, police said.

Shots were exchanged between a man from the second-floor window of his residence on Craig Street and one man in a group of three on the street below, according to a news release from the Amsterdam Police Department.

Police were alerted to the shooting around 1:30 p.m. by a call from a person who saw a man leaning out a window at 218 Grand St. to fire a shotgun.

An investigation into the report revealed that the shootout stemmed from an earlier dispute between the group and the man in the house.

The three men went to the house and after words were exchanged, 21-year-old Christian J. Garcia allegedly fired several 12-gauge shotgun rounds down from his window. Amsterdam resident Angel M. Deangelo Sr., 40, who was in the group below, allegedly fired several rounds from a handgun at the window.

A shotgun, with two spent shells, was later found by police in the residence, where bullet fragments were also recovered. The handgun was not recovered as of late Saturday afternoon.

According to witnesses, the group of men on the ground fled after the shooting. They were located at a nearby intersection. Deangelo Sr. was found bleeding from his head and transported to St. Mary's Hospital, where he was treated for an apparent gun shot wound to the back of his head.

Garcia was charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony, first-degree reckless endangerment, a class D felony, and second-degree menacing, a class A misdemeanor. Deangelo Sr. was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a class D felony, and second-degree menacing, a class A misdemeanor. Both were arraigned in Amsterdam City Court and sent to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.

Police said the investigation is continuing and other charges are possible.

And what was your input to the act? Oh, that's right, 'more guns for everyone!'
Since you gun freaks offered nothing, you should accept what you got. If you don't vote, you've got nothing to complain about.
