— Northshire Bookstore on Monday said it will open its new store at 424 Broadway next Monday.

Northshire Bookstore was founded in 1976 in Vermont by Ed and Barbara Morrow. The opening of the Saratoga location is being led by Chris Morrow, the couple’s son.

“Northshire Bookstore chose to open a store in Saratoga Springs because it has all the elements that a good bookstore needs to thrive,” Chris Morrow said. “Saratoga Springs has a vibrant economy, an educated population, people interested in community — not just commerce — and a strong tourist and visitor flow.”

Bringing Northshire Bookstore to Saratoga has been years in the making. A community petition circulated by Saratoga Springs resident Pat Friesen asked Northshire to bring the bookstore here. By the time the petition was sent to Vermont in July 2012, it was four pages long.

“The anticipation of Northshire’s Saratoga opening is a dream coming true for all of us who began the process,” Friesen said.

The new store is supported by nearly 40 local investors. The bookstore will host three free author events in August and will have a packed calendar beginning in mid-September, according to a press release. More information about Northshire Bookstore can be found at www.northshire.com
