SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Palace Malice won the Jim Dandy at Saratoga Race Course on Saturday, Verrazano crushed the Haskell at Monmouth Park today, and in between another Todd Pletcher-trained 3-year-old, Forty Tales, had some fun of his own.

The bay son of Tale of the Cat closed into a fast pace to win the Grade II Amsterdam at Saratoga about 20 minutes before Verrazano romped by 9 3/4 lengths in New Jersey.

The Amsterdam win sets up Forty Tales, who has won three in a row, for the Vosburgh at Belmont Park or King's Bishop at Saratoga on the Travers Day undercard, when Palace Malice and Verrazano could be running in the $1 million race.

In typical fashion, Forty Tales, ridden by Joel Rosario, waited in the back of the field for the speed duel up front to break down. He caught Micro Margarita in the final strides to win the 6 1/2-furlong race by three-quarters of a length.

He found himself really far back early," Rosario said. "But at the five-sixteenths pole, yu could really see he was moving. I didn't know if we were going to get there, but he really tried hard."
