— Two Fulton County residents are facing felony charges after stopping at an accident scene on Route 30 Saturday.

A trooper was interviewing witnesses at the scene of a fatal motorcycle accident when he smelled marijuana. Melissa Beddow, 39, of Broadalbin and Sandra Aponte, 46, of Gloversville had stopped to provide information on the accident.

Based on the alleged odor, the trooper searched their car, locating a small amount of marijuana and more than 10,000 untaxed/unstamped cigarettes.

Beddow and Aponte were both arrested and charged with felony and a misdemeanor transporting untaxed/unstamped cigarettes. Beddow was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. Both were released on appearance tickets.

I guess calling it 50 cartons wouldn't be newsworthy. Why not call it 100 Billion untaxed/unstamped tobacco leaf fragments.
