Schenectady man accused of choking woman

A city man stands accused of choking a woman to the point of unconsciousness. Richard Ghanie, 21, of Division Street, was arrested after allegedly choking his girlfriend early Sunday morning at his residence. She lost consciousness for an unknown period of time and also suffered bruising to her neck, according to papers filed in court. Ghanie faces one count each of second-degree strangulation, a felony, and third-degree assault, a misdemeanor.
