Schenectady mayor asks residents to conserve water

Schenectady residents are using a lot more water than usual during the current heat wave, so the city is asking them to cut back a bit. The reason is twofold, Mayor Gary McCarthy said late Thursday evening: First, all the extra flow stirs up sediment in the city’s aging pipes and increases the turbidity, potentially leaving the water flowing out of taps discolored.
