Text Size: A | A

As SPAC concert showed, reality of Phish world doesn’t fit with perception Last weekend when Phish played at SPAC, one concert attendee died, more than a dozen required hospital treatment and police made over 200 arrests, mostly for drug possession. On July 3, Jeffrey Brown of the staid PBS Newshour interviewed [guitarist] Trey Anastasio about his interest in classical music, his sense of community with his loyal fans, and his ethic of hard work and ...

Mary, I have to disagree with you a bit. The premise that "Every single politician is usually held to a very high standard" is historically false. The bar for Democrats is much much lower. No Republican would be given a pass by the media had they done what either Spitzer or Weiner did. That is a simple fact. A Democrat can be a sex abusing coke snorting, tax avoiding, racist and still serve as a "proud" Democrat. Read some of these posters here. They don't care. It's all about who delivers their handout. Being a corrupt amoral moron will never disqualify you from running as a Democrat. That's just the way it is.

@Phils2008

What about the scandals involving Republicans such as David Vitter, Mark Sanford, John Ensign, Tom Delay, Etc.? When you paint with such a broad brush in a black and White partisan vision, you paint yourself into a corner of ignorance. Your Republicans are wholesome while Democrats are corrupt mantra limits having an intelligent exchange in a world where both parties have their flaws. The truth is there's very little substantive difference between the two parties as they share the same agenda of remaining in power by appealing to the partisan politics that divides the country.

Pray tell, to what "very high standard" is Sheldon Silver held to ?___They are all wonderfull examples for our young people to aspire to when they grow up !___Jackasses can't be transformed into champion race horses so why do the voters forget that when they caste their ballots ?

Will1960, I hardly painted myself in a corner since I never said Republicans were scandal free. Your party will always use the media to root out Republican irregularities, press ethics charges (How many against Newt until you finally got one to stick)and demand special prosecutors. So I have no doubt Republicans will be held accountable. Its rare they don't resign and even rarer they re-enter politics. You don't seem so enthusiastic to investigate Whitewater, Beghazi, Pelosi, Reid, Holder etc etc. The media tells you and the rest of the lemmings, "there's nothing there, move on". That's all you need if it involves a Democrat. Stories are killed or ignored if they are inconvenient truths regarding Democrats. I don't expect to have an intelligent conversation with a liberal until they (you) start holding your party members to the same "standards" you hold Republicans to.

If these things disqualify Spitzer then Cuomo, the gangster and pervert, should resign long before.

David Vitter never resigned for doing the same thing Spitzer did and Mark Sanford was just elected to Congress after he resigned for his peccadillos. Each Presidential election, both parties lock out qualified candidates(as they did to Jill Stein and Gary Johnson) with the current system of primary and general elections. The election system is a sham which both Dems and Republicans want to retain so they have an easier time of remaining in power and avoid debating serious issues. I would vote for the Green or Libertarian candidate before I would consider either Republican or Democrat candidates. I won't defend their corrupt and ideological impulses. As a political party, they both stick to the party line and can't think for themselves.

Will1960 I do not disagree with what you say. You go Green and Libertarian, I go Conservative. The Republicans have been infected with to many RINOs. Too many career politicians trying to appease Democrats. The System is a sham because the founding fathers failed to ensure term limits. Had they done that one thing, we would not be in the mess we are in today. Regardless of that, the fact is the Democrat party is the one destroying the country.. That is irrefutable. They are fiscally destroying us, not securing our borders and promoting lawlessness. They invented and perfected the art of personal destruction. They adhere to the ends justify the means. They have an uninformed base that blindly follows and control of the media to ensure their messaging. As bad as Republicans (Old guard) are, they have none of that.
