If Eliot Spitzer had been president of France or some other European country, his tryst with a prostitute five years ago would have been tabloid fodder for a few months, then forgotten. Not so in this country, of course: Spitzer’s story made Page One headlines, he was forced to resign from office and he’s spent the last five years in political exile, alternately apologizing for his poor judgment, trying to restore his reputation and plotting ...

There are certain behaviors that SHOULD disqualify you from being in public office. In a society that promotes law-abiding, educated people, the morally challenged should be forced to step aside. Eliot Spitzer has disqualified himself from public office through his immoral behavior. So has Bill Clinton (accused of rape and more). And Ted Kennedy (Mary Jo Kopechne). Sen Chris Dodd (of "waitress sandwich" fame). And Anthony Weiner (how'd you like my tweet?).

No. In a society that strives to attract the best and brightest for public office, these people should be disqualified in the public square of opinion. I find it curious that the Gazette uses terms such as "personal shortcomings" and "lesser of two evils" instead of staunchly advocating for moral leaders who can serve as exemplars to the rest of us.

"Yes, he broke some laws by patronizing a prostitute and trying to cover it up, but they were relatively minor ones."

So using this logic, we can ignore the relatively minor laws?

Just once again shows that the bar for a liberal can never be too low. Weiner will win, and Spitzer will win because NYers are for the most part idiot Democrats. Nothing is too small to disqualify a Conservative or Republican. You can be a former Grand Wizard, use the n word, rant against gays, have numerous drug arrests, steal money, be accused of rape, not pay taxes etc etc and still be a Democrat candidate or elected official. Its a proud lot of absolute hypocrites and fools. Destroy the career of Paula Deen and elect Marion Barry to City Council. Democrats are amoral, shameless, and downright nasty people.

Spitzer embarrassed himself, his family and our State with his behavior. Senator Packwood a Republican Senator was chased out of the Senate for kissing a staffer. The double standard stinks and is in full display at the Gazette editorial board.

Think about this! We have a man who embarrassed the entire State of New York and his family (is he still married?), by Patronizing a Prostitute in the Third Degree. A violation of the New York State Penal Law, Section 230.04, provided the prostitute he (Spitzer was with was over the age of 18 [eighteen] years of age, which is a Class "A" Misdemeanor. But little does anyone take into account that Mr. Spitzer is also guilty of the crime of Adultery, a violation of not only section 255.17 of the New York State Penal Law, but the laws of most religions in the free world that I know of, The Ten Commandments! Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery! The New York State Penal Law defines Adultery as: "A person is guilty of Adultery when he engages in sexual intercourse with another person at a time when he has a living spouse, or the other person has a living spouse." Adultery is a class "B" misdemeanor.

So are we to believe that Mr. Spitzer has seen the light, and has made his mends with God Almighty, that he will sin no more? That he will not give the Monies that are in the State's Retirement Fund away to our spend thrift Governor to squander on some ridiculous project that will only spend the money and do nothing for the people of this state to relieve the tax burden each and every citizen already has to endure? That our Governor, Lt. Governor, and representatives and Senators will not use those funds to give themselves enormous raises which they don't deserve for what they don't do for their constituents? Or that Mr. Spitzer himself will not be caught dipping into those funds to pay for his little swarays with the next hooker that smiles at him and winks her eye at him, while dressed to the nines and leaving nothing to the imagination? I was always taught, when the cat is away, the mice will play! That is how I see our retirement funds going! Andy, and Eliot, just a playing with those funds and having a really good time with our money! It is up to us, the VOTERS of New York State to keep this Cheap Trash out of Office! We can do it! On his record alone!

Governor Spitzer disgraced his wife and three daughters. Now he wants to drag them into the limelight again.
What did he do as Governor? He had the State Police investigate his political opponent, Joe Bruno, with taxpayer money. He wanted to give illegal immigrants driver licenses. He consorted with prostitutes across state lines.

Some one brought it to my attention that Spitzer was running for New York City Comptroller. Well folks! That is only the beginning! Once we let him in the door of politics again, then he can go anywhere he wants. Look what happened to Teddy Kennedy. Once he got in, he had an affair with Mary Jo Kopechne, went off a bridge on Cape Cod, and she drowned while he "tried" to get help, or was it he tried to help her out? We never did get that straight...did we? Then there was John F. and Marilyn Monroe. But who wouldn't have liked to be with her? And William Jefferson Clinton with Monica Lewinski? All just as embarrassing are the next, probably all politically motivated, or it could have been some young thing looking for a chance at a rich man. Still a black eye to the families and/or the offices held by those involved.
