Spartans perfect in Suburban Council wrestling

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake wrestling team strung together five straight victories at one point and beat Columbia, 39-36, to conclude a perfect run through the Suburban Council Thursday night.

The North Division-champion Spartans notched five pins, three of them coming in their spree of wins from the 160- to 220-pound bouts.

Joey Butler (138), Jack Hatten (170), Race Viedt (195), Nico Fragale (220) and Austin Rowinski (120) pinned for BH-BL. In its key five-match run, Jake Ashcraft (160) and Anthony Papa (182) also won by decision.

South Division winner Columbia had four athletes score pins, including section champ Angelo Kress (152) and El Shaddai Van Hoesen (285), who remained unbeaten on the season.

John Stuto and Nate Vargas recorded pins in the final two bouts to lift Guilderland over Shaker, 40-39.

Stuto (126) stopped Bo Lynch and Vargas (132) got his fall against Nolan Narolsky. Two-time Section II champion Blake Retell pinned beforehand at 120 to give Shaker a 39-28 lead.

Jordan Maynard (126), Nick Kelley (138), Zach Joseph (152), Ali Hashimee (170) and Austin DiCerbo (285) pinned in Shenendehowa’s 51-21 win over Colonie, with Hash-imee needing just 22 seconds and DiCerbo 45.

Ballston Spa piled up eight pins, including a 40-second stop by Alex Clements (285), in a 54-30 victory over Mohonasen.

Cameron Pierce (170) and Trevor Gibson (195) recorded falls in Niskayuna’s 45-36 win over Bethlehem.

Averill Park took every bout from 138 to 182, including pins by Collon Butteffield (138), Tyler Moses (152) and Jim Pasquariello (160), in a 39-32 win over Saratoga Springs.

Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk built a 36-0 lead behind pins from Luke Misuraca (160), Brandon Boomhower (170), Tyler Gallagher (182) and Alex Soutiere (285) in a 56-19 Colonial Council win over Lansingburgh.

Mechanicville got pins from Adam Erno (132), Devin Gaudette (145) and Chris Kawola (152) in a 54-18 win over Voorheesville. Alex Fisher (99), Tristan Welton (113) and Nick Saccocio (138) pinned for the Blackbirds.

Andrew Tabbert matched his career-high with 26 points, Joe Cremo netted 23, and unbeaten Scotia-Glenville eased to a 98-28 Foothills Council win over Hudson Falls.

The Tartans (9-0, 13-0), ranked No. 8 in the state in Class A, raced to a 29-8 first-quarter lead. Mike Palleschi and Sean Sayles both reached a season high with 13 and 10 points, respectively, for Scotia-Glenville.

Brandon Winchell scored 14 points for the Tigers (0-9, 2-11).

Queensbury (5-4, 6-7) outscored Broadalbin-Perth from the foul line, 24-9, as part of its 50-43 comeback victory.

Charlie Peltz scored 24 points for the Spartans, with his 12-for-19 line effort part of Queensbury’s 24-for-38 showing. Troy Kelly added 13 points for Queensbury, Ben Bellandi netted 14 for the Patriots (3-6, 5-7), and Andre Taylor added 10.

Gabe Brown and Mat Yamin both fired in 17 points, and Central Hudson Valley League leader Loudonville Christian used a big second half to defeated Germantown, 61-41.

James Hilton had 14 points for Loudonville Christian (9-0, 12-1), which has dealt Germantown (6-2, 7-5) both of its league setbacks. Tyler Fuchs led the Clippers with 16 points, and Nolan Lewis scored 14.

Senior center Rory Siy scored nine of his 39 points in overtime and hauled down 24 rebounds to lift Doane Stuart (4-4, 7-5) over Heatly, 70-62.

Jashiem Chapman scored 22 points for the Hornets (7-2, 7-5). His tying layup with eight seconds left capped a 21-11 fourth-quarter run.
