'70s groups: Dancers, skaters, union workers among those who greeting 1973
Emerson, Lake & Palmer was considered a super group in 1973.
The progressive rock musicians had competition in the Capital Region — from Kilrain, Castelli & Savarese.
The latter trio preferred dance for artistic expression. Robin Kilrain, Patricia Castelli and Ann Savarese performed a dance choreography titled “Newspaper” at Saint Agnes School in Loudonville. The routine was part of a show called “Mirrors and Mirages” that was presented by the Capital Area Modern Dance Council on Jan. 19.
There were other ’70s groups in action during the first month of ’73.
Officers from Local 301, International Union of Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers, gathered for a photograph before beginning work for 13,000 workers at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady.
Ice lovers from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Figure Skating Club practiced for the “Ice Crystals of 1973” show. The young women made their big moves at the RPI Field House on Jan. 20.
Others planned dinners to mark the new year. Parties were sponsored by the Carver Community Center and Schenectady County Funeral Directors Association.
