High school basketball: Holy Names now 12-0

Hannah Friend scored 20 points and Sally O’Toole fired in a season-high 18 as Holy Names beat Bishop Maginn, 63-31, in the second round of its Christmas tournament that was postponed due to snow in late December.

Friend reached the 20-point plateau for the ninth time in helping the state’s No. 1-ranked Class A team improve to 12-0. Each Holy Names victory has come by double digits.

Anna Despart scored 18 points on six three-point baskets, Lindsay Mannion had 13 points and six rebounds, and Maple Hill (12-0, 13-1) beat Chatham for its 108th straight Patroon Conference win, 49-30.

Garrett Pitcher turned in his second straight 31-point performance, and Tristain Wilson notched a season-high 25 as Berne-Knox-Westerlo (8-4) outlasted host Voorheesville, 89-85 in overtime, in the opening round of the Blackbird Invitational.

Dylan Hensel paced Voorheesville with 24 points.

Jamil Hood Jr. scored 22 points, and Green Tech (8-1) earned a title matchup today at 5 with Berne-Knox-Westerlo by beating Cornwall, 71-45.

Johnny Vicciarelli scored 17 points and sank the go-ahead basket with 1:46 left to lift St. Johnsville past Dolgeville, 59-54, in the championship game of the Cutspec Tournament.

Alex Hart and Dylan Klock scored 15 and 13 points, respectively, for the Saints (6-5).

Logan Samarija had 13 points, five assists and four steals in Maple Hill’s 48-44 Patroon Conference win over Chatham.

Albany Academy edged Burke Catholic in a halfcourt buzzer-beater by John Moutopouluos, 75-74. Matt Knezovic scored 20 points for the Cadets (8-2).
