— A 27-7 beginning to the second half for Niagara blew the game open in an 87-64 win over Siena on Thursday.

The Purple Eagles (6-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, 10-8 overall) scored on their first six possessions after the break, including four three-pointers, distancing themselves from the Saints after leading by just six at the half, 40-34.

“They were making some really tough shots,” Siena’s Evan Hymes said. “Sometimes we were missing rotations and leaving them open in the corner, but they made everything. The credit goes to them.”

O.D. Anosike led the Saints (2-5, 4-14) with 15 points and 10 rebounds before being ejected from the game with 7:50 left to play. He was whistled for back-to-back technical fouls.

It was his 12th double-double of the season. He moved past Alex Franklin (2010) into fourth place on the school’s all-time rebounding list.

Imoh Silas and Brett Bisping both scored 11 points, career highs for both Saints. Rakeem Brookins scored 10 points.

Hymes scored nine points for Siena and handed out eight assists to just two turnovers.

Antoine Mason led the Purple Eagles with 23 points, and Juan’ya Green added 21 points and eight assists.

C.J. Cline scored 13 for Niagara, while both Ameen Tanksley and Marvin Jordan added 10.

Despite the assist-turnover ratio for Hymes, Siena turned the ball over 18 times to its 14 assists.

The loss snapped the Saints’ two-game winning streak.

Siena will stay on the road to play at Canisius on Saturday at 2 p.m.
