— The Fairfield women’s basketball team made its final four shots of the game, including a pair of threes from Alexys Vazquez, as the Stags defeated Siena, 66-59, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Thursday morning before a crowd of 2,368 at the Alumni Recreation Center.

The third annual BlueShield of Northeastern New York Kid’s Day game drew the second-largest crowd ever to see a Siena women’s basketball game at the ARC.

Vazquez scored nine straight points on a trio of threes for Fairfield (8-6, 2-1 MAAC), the first of which put the Stags back on top, 52-49, with 3:56 remaining. Vazquez added two more treys, and Christelle Akon-Akech contributed two driving layups in the final minute with the shot clock winding down as Fairfield won its fourth in a row over the Saints (4-10, 0-3).

Early on, the Saints fed off the energy of the crowd. Siena went on a 12-0 run, opening an early 14-6 advantage. The Saints’ lead grew to as much as 10 — 20-10 — on a Clara Sole Anglada jumper with 11:02 to play.

But Siena, which made eight of its first 11 shots, cooled off. The Saints missed seven of their next eight shots and ultimately went scoreless over a seven-minute span. That opened the door for Fairfield, which responded with an 11-0 run to reclaim the lead.

Four Saints combined to score 57 of the team’s 59. Ida Krogh led the way with 16 points, while Lily Grenci added a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Colonie High School graduate Tehresa Coles established a new career-high with 15 points, while Anglada Sole finished with 11 for the Saints, who have dropped four straight.
