High schools: Bulldogs remain perfect in WAC, 48-35

Liz Harvey took another step toward the Berne-Knox-Westerlo career scoring record with 16 points, and Mary Salo netted 15 Wednesday night as the Bulldogs beat Duanesburg, 48-35, and remained perfect in the Western Athletic Conference Southern Division.

Freshman Kathryn Salo came up big in her first varsity start with 11 points, eight coming in the second half, when the Bulldogs (4-0, 8-1) pulled away.

Harvey needs 31 points to break Sarah Domermuth’s Berne-Knox-Westerlo record of 1,525 points. The senior guard has twice scored 35 points this season.

Steph Rice delivered 17 points, and Maddy Kenyon had 12 for Duanesburg (2-2, 5-3), which slipped into a second place tie with Schoharie and Middleburgh in the Southern Division.

Grace Gathen hit a go-ahead three-point basket with 50 seconds remaining, and Hannah Bowersox added a free throw with 14 seconds left to cap Schoharie’s 37-35 win over Mekeel Christian Academy.

Bowersox led the Indians (2-2, 5-4) with 15 points, and Emily Gaige had 12, all on three-point hoops. Macie Holmes topped the Lions (1-3, 4-5) with 15.

Taylor Cater scored 20 points, and Amanda Roney had 17 as Middleburgh (2-2, 5-2) kept Sharon Springs winless, 60-32.

Fort Plain rallied from a 16-1 first-quarter deficit to beat Mayfield, 47-32, and keep its first-place WAC Northern Division record intact.

Abby Boyer scored 19 points for the Hilltoppers (7-0, 10-0), and Haley Kilmartin netted 14. Alex Sheldon scored 11 for Mayfield (2-5, 3-7).

Alexis Kane and Kara Schwab scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, and Canajoharie (5-2, 6-4) raced to a quick lead in a 40-25 win over Northville.

Lyndsey Wadsworth scored 13 points for the Falcons (3-4, 4-6).

Erica Chase scored 11 points, and Amanda Gould and Lindsey Naughton both had 10 as Galway (4-2, 5-4) defeated Saratoga Cath­olic, 58-30.

Warriors triumph

Shawn McNeil scored 16 points, and Stillwater (4-2, 6-3) limited Hoosick Falls to 10 in the first half of a 42-30 Wasaren League win.

John Hoin had 10 points in Stillwater’s fourth straight win. Austin Pitt scored eight for the Panthers (4-2, 4-4).

Schroon Lake used an 18-9 third-quarter run to deal Loudonville Christian its first setback, 46-40, in a non-league game. Mat Yamin scored 17 for Loudonville (9-1).
