So even though volunteer companies don’t pay for firefighters’ services, they still need lots of equipment and a place to put it all. THE GOOD OLD BOY NETWORK IN ROTTERDAM WILL NEVER ALLOW WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. CONSOLIDATION, AND THEN EVENTUALLY A COUNTY WIDE PAID DEPARTMENT. BETTER SERVICE, MORE EXPERIENCED FIREFIGHTERS, JOB CREATION AND MONEY SAVER. VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS ARE NOT FREE. 8 FIRE DISTRICTS IN ROTTERDAM, HOW MANY ACTUAL FIRE STATIONS ARE THERE? MORE THAN 8 I GUESS. CONSOLIDATION OF POLICE AND FIRE SERVICES WILL SAVE THE TAX PAYERS MILLIONS OF DOLLARS AND INCREASE THE QUALITY OF SERVICE.

Eight fire depts. to serve just 30,000 people that average 19 fire calls per year per department. And the people here love it. Plus are more than willing to pay to be over-served. That's why it will not change until the people want change. This newspaper or anyone else will have no affect until the people are no longer willing to support this largess ad nauseum. Whenever that is. You are wasting your time and newsprint trying to raise awareness to a populace that is deaf, blind and probably numb to the problem

The best part is that nearly all 8 departments respond when there is a real fire. The joy of 'mutual aid'. Joining resources is okay when everyone can get into the fun of showing up at a working fire with all those rigs, turn out gear, lights and sirens.
