— A Troy man was sentenced today for having the wrong kind of dish for a pot luck supper.

Andrew Northern, 42, will spend three years in state prison after state police found 500 bags of marijuana hidden in a container of macaroni salad in his vehicle.

Northern was pulled over on Sept. 20 for a traffic violation. When the trooper approached Northern, the odor of marijuana was emanating from the vehicle. Police searched the vehicle and found the marijuana, according to a press release from Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares.

Northern pleaded guilty on Dec. 4 to one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a Class B felony.

Albany County Court Judge Joseph Teresi also sentenced Northern to two years of post-release supervision and Northern was required to forfeit his vehicle.

Street Crime Bureau Chief Francisco Calderon prosecuted this case.
