— Sam Rowley turned in his first double-double with career highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds as the University at Albany defeated Binghamton, 71-59, Monday night in an America East Conference game.

The double-figure scoring performance was the third this year for Rowley, who is averaging 6.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-8 sophomore from Australia was 8-for-9 from the field, and also dished out four assists.

The Great Danes, who have won nine of their past 10, bounced from from Saturday afternoon’s loss at Vermont.

“For us to come in and have our leading scorers [Jacob Iati and Mike Black] shoot 3-for-22 and win by double-digits, I think that says a lot about our supporting cast,” said Danes coach Will Brown. “Our guys were focused on executing tonight’s game plan, and they did an overall good job with it.”

Binghamton (2-13, 0-2) led, 13-8, when Rowley and Luke Devlin combined to bring the Great Danes (13-4, 2-1) back. Devlin hit a jumper, a layup and a free throw consecutively, and Rowley followed with two lay-ins for a 17-13 lead.

Albany never trailed again, and led, 32-21, at halftime, with Rowley accounting for 11 points and Devlin seven of his 12.

Taylor Johnston led Binghamton with a career-high 22 points on 7-for-11 shooting.
