— Carnival Cruise Lines confirmed today that an 18-year-old Saratoga Springs High School student died early Tuesday in his cabin aboard the ship.

Seth Younes, a senior at Saratoga Springs High School, died around 3 a.m. Tuesday during an eight-day voyage of the Carnival Miracle that ended later Tuesday in New York City, according to Vance Gulliksen, a Carnival spokesman.

He was on a cruise with his family during last week’s winter break, according to school officials.

“The cause of death has not been determined,” Gulliksen said in a statement.

An autopsy on Younes was conducted Wednesday by the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The autopsy results were inconclusive and subject to further study, including tissue samples and toxicology testing, according to an office spokeswoman.

No foul play is suspected, the company said.

Saratoga Springs High School teachers and counseling staff are offering grief counseling sessions to students who knew Younes. School officials said Younes was a senior at the high school in good academic standing and a popular student who was respectful of his teachers.

Funeral arrangements had not been announced Wednesday.
