— Price Chopper is paying a $100,000 penalty for allegedly deceptive advertising practices.

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced an agreement with the Schenectady-based grocery store, which has agreed to change the way it advertises and promotes its coupons. The agreement stems from an investigation prompted by complaints about coupons that failed to disclose certain restrictions.

“In the current economy, it is more important than ever that consumers be presented with clear information about the terms and conditions of coupons and other sale offers," Schneiderman said in a statement. "Price Chopper used deceptive business practices to mislead price-conscious consumers and extract hard-earned money from them by hindering their ability to shop competitively and save on groceries. Today’s agreement ensures that consumers will be protected from misleading advertising at these stores in the future."

The investigation revealed that Price Chopper advertised that it was accepting double coupons, while not disclosing restrictions surrounding the policy.

I am grateful that New York has an Attorney General like Eric Schneiderman who is looking out for the little guy. Let me tell you, people that are looking out for the little guy are few and far between in today's world and anyone who does so needs to be applauded, appreciated and supported. Shame on you Golub family Price Chopper.

The gas thing is another rip off..I have a 15 gallon tank and can only put 12 or so gallons in my tank so I either bring a gas container and fill it or just loose it...can't carry it over......

As a former employee of Price Chopper and a person who refuses to shops there...Let me tell you how CROOKED Price Chopper is!!!! Cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap.....Of course, the only thing they're not cheap with is their prices!!!!! Their buy one get one free deal is bogus. The item that you buy is ALWAYS as much as two items anywhere else!!!!

Hannaford has started to get their prices from Golub! We need more Shop-Rites around here so we're not handcuffed by these crooks that are killing us with their high food prices and deceptive deals. The biggest being the save money on your gas bull crap!!!!!
