One was of a Gloria Nelligan who was deeply involved in her grandchild’s education and the education of her own children, a woman who worked to help them and others. If you want to break the cycle of poverty which breeds domestic and child abuse, and breeds teen pregnancy, you must start with educating young teens on birth control and providing them access to free birth control and yes abortion when birth control fails. There is nothing more hypocritical than the religious community against birth control and abortion when the this is sadly an example of what transpires with unwanted pregnancy- you get parents who are unable to cope, which leads to neglect, abuse and the tragic death of many little kids. NYS has a mile long list of unwanted children in foster care waiting for adoption. Where are the financially stable loving families who have the resources to properly care for children? Why arent the Pro-lifers who are so against birth control and abortion lined up to adopt these abandoned and abused children?

Not all females who have children at a young age turn out the way some of you ignorant people have described. Having a child at any age is a CHOICE. Maybe if there were more support for these "children having children" then the outcome will more of a positive one. I believe we ALL need to stop judging everyone and try to lend a helping hand instead. It takes a community to work TOGETHER to raise our children so that OUR future can be a better place.

Breaking the cycle is not letting a grandmother raise a child who so obviously failed with her own daughter. And to leave a child with a person who out right states "I didn't want any more children, and i still don't" Find the child a guardian who instead says "I will fight for that baby and everything that is best for him!" And retdkc is right....making the decision to make and keep a child at 16 does not make you a bad person......its when said 16 year old refuses to grow up and take responsibility for themselves and their child that makes them a bad person.
