SAFE Act: A hidden agenda by the government?

“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

Recently the state senators and assembly men and women voted to infringe upon our constitutional Second Amendment rights by voting for the SAFE Act.

Our elected officials received the proposed law hours before voting for or against it. They requested no data or statistics and, most of all, they did not poll their respective constituents.

Gun owner or not, you should find this extremely disturbing. New York has long been touted as having the country’s most corrupt legislative body. This is just one more example. Do we make decisions without getting any data, or based on sheer emotion? If we did, chances are the decisions would be wrong. Nowhere in the amendment does it state what type of weapon the people should be allowed to own.

Here are some statistics that our legislative body and our governor should have looked at right from our own criminal justice Website.

The following figures are from 2002 to 2011 (finalized):

1) Violent crimes are down 18 percent.

2) Murder is down 20 percent.

3) Rape is down 16 percent.

4) Robbery is down 28 percent.

5) Assault is down 25 percent.

6) Burglary is down 16 percent.

It seems to me that the media should be touting these statistics as a great success. But they don’t; why is that? Is it better to have the people in fear?

We need to ask ourselves what our state government is trying to achieve. Does Andrew Cuomo have his own political agenda? Why does our Senate and Assembly follow like blind dogs? They continue to enjoy the benefits of their respective offices without apparently doing any work. It took me 10 minutes to get this data.

The federal data on the FBI site looks even better. I thought the people of this once-great state should know the truth for a change.

Also, why did the governor think this was such an emergency that he had to rush it through and trample innocent people’s constitutional rights? Based on the above data, it was not.

More of your blatant hypocrisy Fritzdawg. Thats one of the great advantages of being a liberal. You can whine and cry about all the things that effect you while craping on everyone else's rights. The Patriot act went through more then a month after the 911 attack. An attack that killed 3000 people. It happened in part because Clinton administration officials blocked inter-agency intelligence sharing. It does infringe on many of our rights and Im sure you would be quick to cite the first amendment. It's in place primarily to prevent mass murder via bombs and chemicals. Yet when it comes to the second, you're A OKAY with the government confiscating guns. See one touches you and the other touches someone else so piss on them.

Mark, Herr Cuomo was probably looking for a way to guarantee his hat would stay in the ring for president in 2016, with this extra special law! It is too bad that he, Herr Cuomo, (please excuse the terminology) shot himself in the foot by getting this law passed with his notice of necessity! As illegal and unnecessary as it was! He pushed this NY SAFE Act through without any of the usual formalities necessary for any of the other bills to become law, just like our current president has done many times so far during his presidency, including ordering Operation Fast and Furious! But Newtown has taken the wind out of those sails now, and we have all forgotten what the liar Attorney General Eric Holder has done to help keep illegal guns out of the hands of criminals. That man should be tried as a traitor and hung as the traitor he is! The president should be brought up on charges of treason, tried and hung for treasonous acts against the Constitution of the United States of America, and Cuomo should be sued for violating the Constitutional rights of every gun owner in the State of New York, Civilian and otherwise, for this stupid act he pushed throught our legislature in January 2013. Which also not only limits the law abiding citizen but also severly limits the police officer who should be able to protect you liberals. So you liberals who don't want anyone to own guns! The next time someone is breaking into your home to rape your wife and daughter(s), and rob you of all of your valuable belongings, and then kill you, remember this. Call a criminal because he is the only one who will have the weaponry to protect and counter another person's advances against you and your family!

Oh! Before I forget! I pretty much gave up deer hunting. One cold November morning in Columbia County, I observed a guy dressed in Camoflage, carrying 3 handguns and an AR-15 (the civilian SEMI-AUTOMATIC VERSION of the M-16) on some state owned land. When questioned about the reasoning for all of the weapons, he said, "Oh, you never know what you might see in these woods!" He was carrying 2 .357 revolvers, one on each hip, a scoped .44 magnum in a shoulder holster, and the AR. It was scary to see. Looked more like he was going for WWIII.
