— University at Albany must be thrilled it won’t have to face Boston University in men’s basketball any more — at least in conference play.

The Terriers, who are leaving the America East Conference for the Patriot League next year and are ineligible for this year’s postseason tournament, closed out the series with a convincing 79-69 victory at Case Gym Wednesday night.

It was the Terriers’ ninth straight victory over UAlbany. Boston University won 18 of 26 games in the all-time series.

Four Terriers scored in double digits, led by D.J. Irving and John Papale with 18 points apiece. Dom Morris and Maurice Watson Jr. contributed 16 and 11 points, respectively, for the Terriers, who improved to 10-4 in conference play and 16-11 overall.

Senior guard Mike Black scored 21 points, and sophomore forward Sam Rowley recorded 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Great Danes, who dipped to 8-6 and 19-9.

Boston University shot 52 percent from the floor and clicked for 10 three-pointers.

UAlbany was playing without starting guard/forward Peter Hooley, a redshirt freshman who suffered a concussion in the Great Danes’ last game against Hartford. Hooley is expected to miss the next game or two.

Boston University took its largest lead of the first half, 30-22, with 3:08 remaining. The Terriers knocked down six of 14 shots from behind the arc.

The Great Danes used the free-throw line to get back into the contest. They made all eight free throws in the final four minutes, and found inside scoring from John Puk to cut the deficit to just two, 32-30, to end the half.

The Terriers opened up the second half on a 15-6 run to extend their lead to 11, 47-36, with 15:49 left in the game. UAlbany cut its deficit to 55-49 before the Terriers pulled away again.

UAlbany takes a break from conference play and visits Fairfield in the ESPN BracketBusters game Saturday night.
